If you have not already heard of them, you will soon. Sqwishland animals are taking So. Cal by storm and edging out the Silly Bandz for the new “Mommy Can I…” must have item. It’s like a perfect storm of cute, collectible, and well… squishy. As my 13yo says, “But Mom! How can you not love something so round and soft and cute and squishy.” Even I can resist smooshing and squeezing these little figures.
I would like to add… so reasonably priced. Sqwishies are 20 cents to a dollar each. My children can save their own pennies, and loose change from the laundry room and add to their collections without hitting me up for a twenty. Don’t get me started on collectible card costs. I cannot even take my son to Target anymore. But I CAN take him to the local toy store and let him pick out a couple Sqwishies. Lucky for him the local toystore is next to the grocery store. There’s a lot of debate about which Sqwishies are the cutest going on in there.
There is a huge value added with these critters in that they come with a special code (like much higher priced toys) that unlocks an entire online world of play. My kids love to go on the Sqwishland site, almost as much as they like to play with their creatures. Sqwishland toys are the first collectible toys of their type, sold in a vending machine and offering access to online worlds at such an affordable price. It’s a revolution and there are imitators out there already. Don’t be fooled by the fakes though!
I could talk and talk and talk about these cute creatures but in the end my kid’s opinions (and that of their peers) is really what matters. So I’m letting Babyfluential, Teenfluential and Boyfluential give you the scoop.
SPECIAL NOTE: After hearing a malicious rumor that the testing done on these toys was not the same as other toys due to their vending machine roots, I spoke directly with the company. I have reviewed copies of their very extensive testing/safety reports and have confirmed that that rumor is untrue and these toys have been extensively and thoroughly tested for safety. With one note of caution: They are not really appropriate toys for a toddler to play with unsupervised. You may notice that my toddler (almost 3) is in the video. He is a HUGE fan of these toys. This is because of his older siblings obsession, and because they are so cute and sqwishy how could he not be? We do allow him to play along and he has his “own” larger sized Squishland toys but… this is very important…. my toddler is never left to play with toys like these unsupervised. I am bringing this up, even though it seems like common sense, because I don’t want my son’s appearance in the video to leave anyone with the impression that these are appropriate baby or toddler toys. Please don’t let your young ones play unsupervised with vending machine style toys or capsules. Or any toy, rock or object that is a potential choking hazard. Play safe!
