On the top of the ten list: The Hoover Floor Mate.
Sadly, I’m writing this post because my son has a stomach virus. He’s two. He’s not real good at making it to the bathroom when he gets sick.
There are times when you have to clean the floor really really well. You don’t want anything left behind. In fact you just want new flooring, but since that’s not possible, you have to clean. Seriously clean. Mops, no matter how wonderful, leave some of their dirt and slop water behind. You can rinse and rinse but it’s grueling work and you’re not getting it all, no matter how you think you are.
I know this because the first time I used my Floormate, I had a very rude shock. I’d thought my floors were reasonably clean. I thought I was doing such a great job with my sprayer and microfiber mops. I also thought my floor wasn’t as shiny as when we installed it ten years ago because it had aged. I’m not a complete pig here. I clean regularly and employ professional home cleaners. It never occurred to me that my floor was anything but clean. But…
Turns out my clean floor was actually covered in a foggy film that was left over from all that spray mopping. After that particularly mortifying initial floor cleaning with minimal cleaning fluid and plain water, it looked much like remembered it looking many years ago. Shiny again!
I can now keep it clean with plain water (important if you have a kid with allergies or a baby crawling on your floor who you don’t want exposed to nasty chemicals) and minimal labor because the Floormate dry vaccums and then converts to a wet mop that sprays, scrubs with spinning brushes and sucks all that water and dirt back up off the floor before it can dry in a filthy film. My cleaning lady almost offerred me a discount when I got this thing, because her job got so much easier.
This morning I particularly appreciate my Hoover Floormate, hence this post. That and the fact that my son had the decency to get sick on the floor in the kitchen and not on carpet or the car. Good kid.
Disclaimer: I was sent one of these for a review. I’m so in love with it. I’m sorry I had to mention the whole sick thing. But that’s the reality, people! I will never go back to any kind of mop for my hard floors. I cannot live without this thing. I’m sending my link to all the friends and family members who keep trying to steal mine!
