I’ve written about my stress knitting habit and how I always have a project or three on my needles. Lion Brand has long been my go-to for affordable, quality yarn. I’m especially fond of their LB luxury collections that offer small batch natural and recycled material yarns for special heirloom projects. These are my favorite yarns for making items to gift.
I just never dared imagine I’d be on the receiving end of such a gift.

Earlier this year I got a surprise package from Lion Brand, that contained a gorgeous skein of their hand dyed pure silk yarn and a letter inviting me to choose a custom made accessory from their yarn, hand crafted by one of their artists. After a great deal of handwringing over the gorgeous choices, I chose a blue/green colorway for a crocheted open mesh shawl.
Last week my treasure arrived.
It looks and feels as if it was created by and for mermaids. I love it all the more because it was made for me and it was crocheted – a skill I cannot seem to master no matter how many times I am told it is easier than knitting, and no matter how many times I’m taught by well meaning friends and family members.
Something about all the counting and my short term memory/distractibility seems to trip me up every time.

It’s very nice to get a gift, especially out of the blue, and made from my favorite stuff.
I’ve got a skein of silk yarn in hot pink, in my project bag, just waiting to become something. Possibly a gift for someone else. Because I want to yarn it forward!
