There is a new kind of Skylander in town, with all new adventures and characters. What I love, LOVE about these new characters is that they are so versatile and invite your children and their imagination to come up with new game play possibilities and combos, by swapping the pieces and parts of the Skylanders Swap Force figures. They can customize their characters and “invent” whole new ones, by combining two pieces together.
My five year old in particular loves this. He feels so powerful, coming up with his own signature character to play with, and having this affect the entire game. It’s a whole new imaginative layer, and it extends beyond the video game into pretend play.
This is another reason why I love Skylanders. My son brings his figures on playdates and takes them from room to room. Even when our Wii & Xbox are not involved, he can be found playing with the characters and figurines “IRL”.
I’m grateful that this new version of Skylanders works with all the characters we have already collected, extending the play value of the Giants and original figures that we already have collected.
I think it’s fair to say that my sons, and their friends are Skylanders superfans. I am not allowed to touch my five year old’s Skylanders posters. He likes to get them out and match up the figures he has to the ones he still “needs” and there have been times when my mantel has been covered and I have had to leave it that way, for fear of disturbing holy ground.
Disclosure: We received a starter pack in order to facilitate a Skylanders Swap Force review. All opinions are my sons’ and mine!
