Have you seen the Bridge of Locks?

My teenaged daughters are obsessed with leaving locks on the bridge of locks.
The tradition is this: you place a lock on the grate on a bridge over the Seine. Then you throw the key in the river and walk away. The lock is a symbol of your love, or friendship or commitment. It stays. You go.
Tourists have been leaving love locks on the Bridge of Locks for the last decade or so. This practice has spread around the world.
Technically it may not stay forever. Not even close. Authorities have been cutting the locks down as needed to protect the bridges’ structural integrity. But still, it is such a lovely and romantic gesture that my girls are smitten. So smitten that this ranks higher on their list than seeing the Eiffel tower even. I’m going to blame the Kardashians for this.
But even before the Kardashians took their show on the road to the bridges, this tradition started to spread like wildfire to cities all over the globe. Here is a list of love lock locations. All over the world! Even here in California.
Like all great fashions, it seems to have started in Paris, which is where our locks are headed.
My sons got a kick out of the notion that I was letting them paint with nail polish. They asked to do their toenails as well. Next stop…. Paris!
There’s no point in leaving a boring or ugly lock behind in Paris, is there? This is why we’re decorating our locks with nail polish and glitter. All the better to see them with when someone else visits and takes a photo!
My sons could not believe I let them use nail polish. The wanted to do their toes after…
My daughter said it looks like Tinkerbell threw up on my lock. I think she is jealous that I got to the star glitter first.
