Every year we keep a bunch of gift cards on hand for teacher gifting.
We also like to recycled used and new (zero value) gift cards for other projects. This year we made a wreath out of Starbucks gift cards, that came out so lovely, it had me thinking.
One of our favorite things to make out of old cards are guitar picks. A few years ago, when my kids started to play, I picked up a guitar pick punch on ebay.
What a great purchase this has been! My kids are always losing guitar picks and in need of a spare. And at the same time we have a pile of old cards sitting around. Those old Disney Annual pass cards? Guitar picks. Hotel room cards? Expired membership cards… etc. And once you have punched them into a guitar pick size, you can also make jewelry out of the guitar picks. Which we have not really done, because my kids are always losing guitar picks. I seriously cannot have too many.
We keep our guitar picks in an empty Altoids tins.
It occurred to me that the kids teacher might appreciate a tin full of holiday themed picks, along with a gift card (with actual value!).
So I got out the punch and punched up some of the extra zero value cards.
Generally I like to go over these gently with a super fine grit sandpaper before using. It’s not really necessary but it does produce a more smooth finished edge.
Look how cute this gift came out.
If you have a guitar teacher or a friend who plays guitar, I’m sure they would appreciate a tin full of upcycled picks, along with their gift card too!
