Yesterday I took part in a pay-it-forward style campaign for American Eagle’s new 77Kids children’s line. I was part of a team of 7 bloggers & site owners out to do some good! This “Do Good Day” event took place in 11 cities nationwide, involving 77 bloggers and their families. Every city did their own thing but one thing that was the same everywhere – the events were all about kids helping kids.
Our team brainstormed some of the nice things kids could do in an afternoon to help out others and we came up with the idea of making cards for kids at Children’s Hospital. We set up tables, chock full of cards, stamps, stickers and crayons at a busy park in LA. It wasn’t long before we were swarmed with small do-gooders, eager to send a little sunshine. Watching the kids make their cards and put all that love and thought into their designs, was really touching,
After completing the get well cards participants were treated with a gift card from Coldstone Ice cream (yum!) and a certificate entitling them to a free shake and free kid’s lunch with adult purchase from Ruby’s Diner. Also in the kid’s packet was a dollar bill with suggestions of things you can do with a dollar (or for free) to make someone else’s day better.
If you have a dollar:
1. Buy from a lemonade stand, a bake sale, or another fundraiser
2. Leave a dollar in a vending machine for someone else to find it
3. pay the toll for the car behind you
4. buy a sheet of stickers and hand them out to kids
5. put four quarters in parking meters
6. tip a street musician
7. send a thank you card to someone who made a difference in your life
If you just want to pay it forward with your deeds:
1. Open the door for someone, offer up a seat, let them go in front of you.
2. Sweep off (rake, shovel) the whole sidewalk.
3. Smile at people you pass by.
4. Offer a free car wash to your neighbor.
5. Leave a note of support or appreciation for someone who could use it.
6. Visit with someone you know who is in a nursing home.
7. Tell the people closest to you why you love them.
If you haven’t checked out the 77 kids website yet, head on over there. They have the same great style you like for adults, made extra adorable for kids. Clearly this is a company with heart. Use code 34532276 to save 15% off your purchase through August 10th.
Thanks to Seaside Lagoon for being so accommodating and to my awesome 77kids teammates: Caryn from Rockin Mama, Elizabeth from Traded my BMW for a Minivan, Linda from Peachhead, Stephanie from BizzieMommy, Aracely from Daytripping Mom and Liz from Thoughts of a Mommy.
