Here I go again with the free craft a’la Home Depot. Clearly I’ve been spending a lot of time (and money) there lately. I keep going back for assorted projects and I always seem to find a little extra inspiration here and there.

Today while my husband cut PVC pipes for another project, I perused the paint chips. I picked out a handful of colors for my 3yo. I wanted to get some purples and indigos because last night when he was talking with my husband he said something like this:

Huz: It’s nighttime, the sky is black.

3yo: No it’s not silly Daddy. It’s purple and dark blue!

Of course he was right. He has a fine sense of color, that one. Painting is one of his favorite things in the world. I picked out several shades of red, blue etc because he loves to talk about what happens when you mix different colors together.

When I got home with the paint chips, I thought it would be fun to punch out some shapes with a craft punch. I made circles, and thought about doing some sort of art project with them. But the 3yo had other ideas. Since there were two “dots” in every paint chip, he knew exactly what he wanted to do with these colors. Matching game!

In under ten minutes we were playing. He loves the subtle differences between the shades and I love the fact that this game is portable, beautiful and yes… it was FREE!
