I am a Southern Californian, beach loving mom of exceptionally fair skinned children. Sunscreen is our friend. Sprays, lotions, towellettes sticks… think they’re all the same? Not so! There’s a sunscreen for almost every situation. Having the RIGHT one handy is key. Here’s what you need to get the job done and keep your baby’s bottom (and your own too) from getting burned this summer.

THE MOMFLUENTIAL SUNSCREEN PRIMER

  • Lotions: To be used on a naked or nearly naked child, prior to leaving the house. Quickly. Avoid using in hot, sandy, sweaty locations such as the beach, car, or parking lot. It could get messy. Store at home.
  • Sprays: To be used in the parking lot and/or on the beach when you need to re-charge. Store cans in beach bags, pool totes and/or car
  • Towelettes: To be used on squirmy toddlers and babies anywhere, any time. Store in purse, in glove compartment, and baby bag.
  • Sticks: Face essential! Also good for ears, noses, part of hair. Doesn’t sting like lotion/spray. Use a lot. Buy at least 10 and stash everywhere. You can use on a kid’s whole body in a pinch.
  • Scalp Spray: To be used on kid/toddlers who refuse to wear a hat, those with little hair, your bald uncle. Stash in beach/pool bags.
  • Zinc Ointment: To be used religiously on the super fair, and very young.  Also good for impersonating/picking up lifeguards & surfers. If you’re into that.

Just because you’re wearing sunscreen doesn’t mean you shouldn’t wear a rashguard and a hat. Better safe than sorry! If you’re shopping for UV safe duds for your kids, I adore UVSkinz. We’ve put their rashguards through the wringer with multiple kids and beach outings.

Happy beach/pool/lake going everyone! So glad it’s summer!
