When the giant “California” letters disappeared from the plaza outside CA Adventure I was so sad. My daughter, on the other hand was sort of happy.
Because her name starts with an “M”.
For the last decade or so since CA Adventure opened, we’ve been snapping photos of M and her siblings in and on the letters. The only issue was the fact that her sibs names start with “A”, “L”, and “F”. Poor M was out of luck, having to have her picture shot in the “R”, the only other letter present in her name (but not at the beginning) and not in her sibling’s names. If only we’d called her Rachel!
I personally was hoping the letters would come back but it seems they have moved on. Don’t despair though. They have found a new home. Last week Disney announced that the letters will be on display in Sacramento. From the Disney Parks Blog:
“The Disneyland Resort will donate the set of letters, which were removed to make way for the Disney California Adventure park expansion project, to the Friends of the California State Fair, a nonprofit organization that benefits California Exposition & State Fair (Cal Expo) in Sacramento. Cal Expo is the site of the California State Fair and hundreds of other events annually.”

We can’t wait to check out CarsLand and more this summer.

I was always sad that the powers that be didn’t throw a J in the state’s name for good measure. Everyone loves a misplaced letter, right?!
