There’s so much going on at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park all year long, but summertime is extra special there. Right now the park is hosting their Summer Safari African Extravaganza.
It’s an extra special time to visit the San Diego Zoo Safari Park
Live performances, special animal education efforts and multiple special activities throughout the park make this an excellent time to head out on a Safari.
Check out the schedule for live performances including acrobatic displays and the Cheetah run.
What we enjoyed on our visit down to check out the Summer Safari, was that there is so much to see and do at your own pace. Small children will enjoy doing crafts and practicing their drumming over in the Safari base camp.
Hands on experiences are part of what makes this theme park stand out.
During our visit we loved seeing some of the African animals you don’t always hear a lot about including this Turaco – a relative of the roadrunner.
This Ocelot was utterly adorable. I wanted to take it home but sadly, these are not quite like a domestic cat.
We always enjoy visits to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park, not only for the wildlife but for the grounds and the plant life and beautiful scenery. The landscaping alone is worth the trip! Check out this shot I got on the rope bridge en route to viewing the Tigers. The entire park is one big photo op.
Although it can get quite hot, there are plenty of places to cool off throughout the park. There are misters and fans placed alongside the areas where lines can get long, including the line for the African Tram Safari.
The line for the African Tram Safari moves fast and the misters keep you from overheating – a thoughtful touch.
No trip would be complete without this safari tram ride that takes you through the park and gives you a closer look at the animals and their habitats. But if you want a truly personalized safari experience, you can sign up for one of several optional guided tours geared for photographers, zip line adventurers and behind-the-scenes enthusiasts. Still want more? Consider an overnight.
If your kids are true enthusiasts, consider sending them to summer camp at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park.
No visit to Southern California would be complete without a trip to this gem of an attraction. If you are a resident of Southern California, you won’t want to miss all that is going on at the park this summer. So many new baby animals, great new installations and of course the Summer Safari.
