My Sanity’s in Lockdown, but I have a PEN!

You may recall that I have written about the issues I have finding a pen and dealing with pen theft in my household. We have this shameful mug of useless writing implements. I don’t even know why I have this mug. Or how. Only that every time I manage to empty it, it repopulates overnight with a fresh supply of wheat pennies, stale gummy bears, broken crayons and mechanical pencils sans lead. Magic!

Shortly after I wrote about my mysterious black hole mug, Papermate contacted me and graciously offered to send me one of their new InkJoy pens. Not only did they send the pen, but also a security device designed to protect my pen. An awesomesauce fingerprint read safe from Locksafe that I could store that precious pen in. It might be the cleverest PR package I have ever seen.

“DO NOT TOUCH MY PACKAGE” I warned the boys.

“I’M NOT KIDDING!!!” I yelled at the girls.

“MINE MINE MINE!” I snapped at my husband.

The cleaning lady timidly placed the box on my desk. And walked away.

Today I was writing with my glorious InkJoy pen. Really fantastic. Rolls without any resistance, unlike any other ball point I have tried. I’ve tried a lot of pens mind you. I wrote with a fountain pen in college for all my notes. I’m that into pens.

I thought to myself “Huh, I really should lock this thing up”.

So I went to unpack my safe.

Seems that the under 4-footers in the house beat me to it. Conveniently, they locked the keys, the cable, the batteries and the manual on the inside of the yet to be activated safe. I could get a replacement key. If I had the registration and serial number. Guess where that is?

Yup. Inside the locked safe. With the answer to what happens to all the pens in my house and where the old gummy bears and wheat pennies come from.

Sigh.

And so it goes in my house. One of these days they are going to lock ME up. You’ll recognize me in the nuthouse. I’ll be the one with a pen in my bra.

Inkjoy has a giveaway running now through the 3/25/12 on their Inkjoy Facebook page. Turn in a pen thief and you could win cash or prizes, including these awesome pens.

Disclosure. Inkjoy sent me an awesome pen and safe to check out. Just so we’re clear. All opinions are mine, and all children are grounded.

Every house with kids needs great pens and a place to lock them up.

I’m still laughing reading this, even after tweeting about it! Poor you. It’s such a cool lock box, but as you know, I quickly lost mine to Nate too. He did the fingerprint technology and everything so now who knows what’s stored inside as only his finger opens it!
At least you have the pens – they are pretty cool too ;D

I so feel your pain about never having a pen. As a designer and artist and person who likes arty supplies, I probably have THOUSANDS of special pens and markers that do special things. I have pen holders that divide the colored sharpies from the black sharpies, the medium from the fine points, the wood pencils from the technical and many others too pedantic to name. I spend time sorting these things so that they are easily accessed and yet I never can find a f@#king one of them! The hubs and the Critter hide them from me, I swear.

Oh that is hysterical. (sorry) We have the same mug issue (and various trinkets that inevitably make their way into it) at my house. Genius idea with the pen. Too bad the kids got to the lock first!

I kind of love the idea of a pen safe, and I REALLY love a good pen. I’ll have to be on the lookout for one of those Inkjoys.

I used to have a foot long pen that I used when I was working a show, that pen lasted me 4 years. recently it just disappeared, I don’t know how someone walked off with it, but sadly it is gone.
