My iPhone and my Two Year Old

My youngest son is two. Two years and two months this week. And he is a supergenius. I’d like to take all the credit, but in fact I think it’s Apple. They’ve been working on him for a year now, via my iPhone.

The things that this kid can do on his my iphone are uncanny. Unnerving at times. Just the other day he came to me and said “Mommy, I sell your sea tuttle. I buy you new fishies – red ones and green ones!” He’s referring to TapFish, my virtual aquarium. He takes great care of my fishies.  But no worries if he doesn’t… Fortunately I don’t have to flush these fish if they die.

Next he’s off to catch a “boo marwin” on Flick fishing and collect more trinkets with the tickets he’s earned on Skee Ball. What else? He’s also making pizza for Zombies and attempting to create the world’s grossest cupcake.

Did I mention he’s just two? He can’t use the toilet but if you hand him an iPhone, it’s quite possible that he could do your taxes. That’s what I’m aiming for. By the time he is five, at the very least.

I wish I knew what it was that makes it so easy for my son to navigate through my iPhone. The ease with which he grasps both the content and the functions of this touchable interface is almost spooky.

Recently we purchased iPod Touches for our son two older daughters. Sometimes I have to make a call and need to use his my phone so this eases his separation anxiety some. Despite the fact that both of my daughter’s have identical iPods and cases, the two year old never mixes them up. He merely checks the screensaver, and lets us know whose device he’s commandeered.

I hear my son is not alone in his 2 year old Apple prowess but I find it hard to believe.

Then again maybe it’s true. One thing’s for certain – for Mother’s Day he’d I’d love a new iPad. For both of us. I never get to use my phone anymore!

I continue to be amazed that people hand their expensive phones over to their toddlers. Don’t they ever catapult them out the car window or into the frozen fish bins at the supermarket?

Maybe it’s because, clearly, you have a brilliant son, Ciaran!

LOL. He will yell at anyone ELSE who touches it. “Hey! Put it down! Dats Mommy’s PHONE!” like they might break it. Unlike him… I have the case, the screen protector and apparently good luck.

Oh yeah, my 2 year old can master anything electronic. It’s quite scary. He can now locate videos of trains on YouTube all on his own. Along with playing his favorite games (via apps), he also knows how to DELETE my notes and other important info on my phone. Love that *rolling my eyes*

My 2yr old has just learnt how to take the phone out of flight mode… Oh dear.
