I love travel. I do it a lot. But rarely are my travels focused on me.  This week, everything changes. It’s go time and me time all in one.

I’m headed to the beautiful  W Resort in Punta De Mita Riviera Nayarit.

Thanks to the W Hotel for hosting me on this getaway. All opinions are my own.

Over the years I’ve grown skilled at sussing out family-friendly resorts. My checklists are extensive. I’m also a frequent work traveler and can tell you which hotels have the best wifi and in-room coffee.

Rest assured, W Punta De Mita has families and digital nomads perfectly covered. But that’s not what I’ll be writing about this time.

This trip I finally get to answer the burning question I usually don’t dare to ask, “But what about ME?!!”

I’m sure many of you can relate. We spend so much energy making sure everyone else is comfortably accommodated, that we run out of steam to plan for ourselves.  What makes me happy? Making other people happy, comfortable etc. Their joy is my joy. For the most part….

This is my time. The kids are at camp. The husband is busy. I am looking forward to a few days of rest, relaxation, spa, healthy food and yoga.  Man do I need it… like a decade worth of need it.

Lest I be tempted to sleep for four days, I have some specific plans and goals for my self centered re-centering retreat. These goals are all personal and would be impossible on a family/spouse trip but I think I jut might be able to pull it off here this week. So here goes…

Me Time for Meditation and Reflection

I’ve had a lot of losses and challenges in the last year that I am still processing and dealing with.  So much of my time has been spent in service with others, I’ve lost touch with myself.  That has to change.

Me Time for Gentle Exercise

I broke my hip socket in a bad fall last November and the healing has been a challenge. As a result, my fitness attempts have felt like one step forward, two steps back. I’m looking forward to swimming and yoga and spa activities to help get my groove back.

Me Time for Body-Image Attitude Adjustment

Lately, I’ve been so so hard on myself. I’ve found it hard to look in the mirror. Even worse is photos of myself I want that to change, so I am bringing a tripod and staging some therapeutic selfie sessions. I think there is something forgiving about the camera and I like the idea of using it as a tool to rediscover what I actually like about me. Best case, I end up with some photos I like. Worst case scenario, I can throw the shots away.

Me Time for Dreaming and Puttering

Recently I launched a new project – a podcast. Things like new podcasts, blogs, shopping and crafting require time. The reward is my sanity. This project brings so much happiness that it is a reminder that I need time to putter and dream.

I swear I love my kids. Taking them places makes my heart swell.  Seeing their wonder completes me.

However, there are certain family travel “standards” that I am not going to miss during my me time:

  • A wet and sandy pair of boy’s swim trunks flung carelessly across my pillow
  • Watching the Cartoon network, Disney Channel, Nickelodeon etc
  • Chicken nuggets, pizza, and pasta without sauce
  • Telling anyone not to throw sand
  • Charging the DS and the Switch and figuring out who left the ipad where.
  • Snoring, blanket hogging, bathroom sharing…

This trip is all about me and I just can’t wait to soak it all in, and hopefully share a little of that goodness with you.

Incidentally – I felt safe drinking the bottled water and eating food prepared at this hotel. After discussions with the staff I learned that the property uses a filtration system for water that is used in the kitchen to wash produce and for drinking water and ice served in the restaurants. Bottled water is also provided in the rooms.

If you are curious about where it is and is not safe for travelers to drink tap water (Mexico is one area where it isn’t safe for all) then check out Mappin’ Megan’s informative post about water safety when traveling.

Where’s your favorite place to travel? Have you taken any solo trips lately? Is there anything you’d like to see me cover in Nayarit?
