I love it when retailers go out on a limb and make a statement. The Brasil collection at Macy’s arrived with fanfare, Samba, and scantily clad women in full Carnivale regalia. That’s definitely making a statement!
This spring, to one of the most talked about countries on earth, Brasil. From Sao Paulo to Rio, and from the Amazon to Bahia, Macy’s tribute campaign aims to capture the spirit of this rich and intriguing culture through specially-curated in-store shops, collaborations with well-known Brasilian fashion designers, Brasil-themed events in stores and a fundraising program to benefit the Amazon Rainforest.
Macy’s Brasil campaign officially kicked-off on May 16, and I attended a celebration last night at my local store in Costa Mesa.
Since the beginning stages of the program, Macy’s has worked with leading members of the Brasilian creative class to ensure authenticity of “Brasil,” named to reflect the traditional Portuguese spelling of the country. Curated shops featuring authentic Brasilian product in a variety of categories including fashion, home, beauty, accessories and art pieces, have been hand-selected to create a colorful and inviting main floor environment in 300 Macy’s stores.
Some hits for me and my teenaged girls:
- The bold prints everywhere: From clothing to swimwear, the bold and modern artistic graphics of these curated collection pop with a fresh color palette of limes, sea blues, reds and orange.
- The organic and handmade items: Jewelry crafted from natural materials and or modelled after natural material, handcrafted pieces and “market” fresh choices that transport you to an outdoor bazaar.
- Summer classics: Hand-milled imported soaps that smell of clean laundry and sunshine, beach ready totes, “wish” bracelets and the like invite you to stash the cell phone, drop your worries, forget the office and hit the beach with your besties. It’s a fresh whiff of carefree times.
Disclosure: This post has been sponsored. I was compensated for my time to attend and cover the Macy’s Brasil premiere. All opinions are my own.

The bold prints do inspire a “leave work and go to the beach” feeling. Thanks so much for attending. It looked like a great time.
