There are not so many places where kids can be in control of a family vacation, and that can be frustrating for them. They have their ideas, and you have yours. Sometimes those ideas are the same and sometimes… not so much!
The Legoland resort is one of the few places where kids can hop in the driver’s seat (literally and metaphorically) and take over, and nobody gets hurts. The trick is planning a leisurely weekend and booking a night at the brand new, super fun Legoland hotel. It’s a great trick indeed for So Cal residents looking for an easy weekend getaway.
Although you could do the Legoland theme park in one day, with two days to play there is no need to rush. Take your time in the aquarium, and live it up in the waterpark. At the end of the day, instead of hitting the freeway with tired kids, you can relax in style in one of the themed family rooms at the on site hotel. Choose from Pirate, Adventure and Kingdom styled rooms, all with fun Lego decor and accents. No matter which floor you check into, with all the amenities at the Legoland hotel, there are no bad choices.
Guests enjoy:
Rooms cleverly designed with separate areas for kids and parents – no need to fight over the TV.
- Kid and adult friendly buffets and meals
- Resort style pool and lounge areas
- Daily activities and contests
- Whimsical touches throughout the property including a “disco elevator”
For our trip we asked our two sons age 5 & 8 to plan an entire day, down to lunch breaks and a ride plan. They sat down with a map and came up with the following – a full day of adventure. We enjoyed letting them set the pace and make the decisions. They loved taking the lead. We were impressed that they drew up such a thoughtful plan!
We required that the kids execute the plan as well. Throughout the day they were the navigators, checking maps and leading the way to the various attractions they had planned for us to visit. Surprisingly, they had no problem finding their way and did a fair job of adjusting their plans when they decided they were hungry or wanted to try something new along the way.
The aquarium was an especially big hit. The exhibits are very interactive with plenty of things to touch and explore.
I highly recommend a visit to the Legoland hotel for families looking for an easy escape that is enjoyable for all ages. This is a perfect grandparent/grandkid weekend destination as well. Distances between the hotel and most parts of the park are not a particularly taxing walk and there are plenty of places to take a break, and observe or stop for a snack or treat. It’s an ideal destination for a weekend of family bonding.
Disclosure: We got a look at the hotel during their opening weekend, where we were invited as press guests. All opinions are our own. We’ll be back!
