Otterboxreview

One of the only drawbacks of choosing the iPhone 6 Plus as my current cell phone, was that the phone came out of the gate with only a handful of case choices. I’ve been anxiously awaiting the release of the Otterbox Defender Series Case for the iPhone 6 Plus and couldn’t wait to try it on my baby.

Otterbox Defender Series Case for iPhone 6 PlusThanks to Otterbox for sending this case for review, all opinions are my own

I’ve used the Defender on other devices. It’s a go-to and a favorite.  Every device is different though, and the Defender Series has gone through a few iterations as well.  I wanted to see how the newest version of this classic case would work on my newest (and currently most precious) device.

The Good:

My phone feels very well protected. I’ve already have to replace the phone once (my first broken iphone ever!) when it was placed on the bumper of my car for a second, slipped off and shattered. The phone was in a flimsier case at the time and I’m certain the Defender Series case would have saved me significant cash in that instance. For starters, it wouldn’t have slipped. The outer skin on this case provides both cushion and “stick” on smooth surfaces. This is great if you drive, sail or basically set your phone down anywhere that might move.

Everything works and is accessible with the case on, you don’t really have to take it off.

I didn’t talk much with ear to iPhone 6+ before this Defender case. It’s not just about how ridiculous people look chatting on something the size of a tablet… it’s just not comfortable. The case actually makes it a little better because it is a little softer and easier to tuck between your ear and shoulder in a pinch, but only for a second. For handsfree talking, which is my preference in general, I use an earpiece or speaker almost exclusively. Fortunately the case doesn’t limit access to the earphone port. All the ports and controls are still easy to access when your case is installed, and yes, it still reads your thumbprint reliably.

The Great:

The design is nice and clean. I like that it’s so protected but it doesn’t look like like it’s military or camping gear for dudes only.

My phone still looks pretty sleek, I think. You can customize your case and skin – mixing and matching colors to suit your own personal style. Otterbox Defender Series Case for iPhone 6 Plus

This case is easier to get on and off than previous Defender Series versions I’ve tested on other phones. I don’t take it off often, but it’s nice to know I won’t have to locate a butterknife or risk breaking a nail. It snaps on and off quickly and easily.

The Just OK:

The phone is already huge and this case makes it huger, and heavier. While I’m glad it won’t slip off the dash, I’m a little sad I can no longer slip it easily into my oversized clutch wallet or the side pocket in my purse. It has to free float in my bag. Good thing it’s well protected!

It may muffle sound a little on the speaker setting. I do a fair amount of conference calling and have to make sure the speaker is pointed at my mouth. My workaround is earphones.

There is less accuracy with the screen and thumbprint read. It’s not too bad but I have to do more corrections when typing than I would without the case, and that can get tedious when you are sending long messages.

The Proof is in the Using

This case hasn’t come off my phone since I received it to test. I have a few other cases that I would call “fashion” cases but they are gathering dust. The Otterbox Defender Series Case for iPhone 6 Plus  just gives me a certain level of confidence that can’t be beat. This is one case I’ll always come back to.

A Christmas tragedy for a Senior

Twas the night after Christmas and all through the house not a creature was stirring.
I grabbed that gift that was left under the tree, an Otterbox Defender for my new Apple IPhone 6 plus still whirring.
I opened the box with great care only to discover a leaflet that had pictures but no explanation to aid in helping my curiosity to cure.
I proceeded to pull out the Otterbox with great glee and managed to separate the clip holder box from the base for sure.
I placed my iPhone between the box parts in hopes that I would be delighted but alas the combination was premature.
The base had this plastic in it that I was sure was packing, but would not come out, despite all my tugging. So with scissors and considerable effort, I pulled that plastic right out so secure.
Looking at the inner box, I desperately searched the internet for signs that perhaps I was in error and found that that the Otterbox was actually a family of four.
The problem was that I had no idea how to pull the neoprene seal from the inner box, a step so secret that no internet search would cure.
Twas the second day after Christmas, there were no true loves to feel, only that Otterbox with that darn neoprene seal.
Twas the third day after Christmas, and my mood was deflated by a thing that was so unsure. I found that plastic I ripped out was a screen protector with regrets. I called Otterbox support only to find the wait was ten minutes but I prevailed without a meal.
Finally an answer from Otterbox that suggested my wait was to no avail. The man suggested have you tried a dime or penny to pry that neoprene seal?
His hint was more than a coin, since he indicated that an open port might be the target to pry, a thought which was counter indicated by several internet lures.
But sure enough, that coin did work and on day three I actually announced, my Otterbox family of four did appear.
With a flip of the mouse, I ordered another inner box to unite my family of four, complete with a new screen protector to dry my tears.
The only conclusion from this story, a sad one at that is please Otterbox, provide more advice for us seniors to be clear.
