Last month I wrote about how much I was loving working with Lion Brand’s Silk Ribbon Yarn. This stuff is produced in small batches from sari silk and you never know what colors you will get, which is a lovely stashbusting design challenge for me. I received two hanks of the Lion Brand Silk Chiffon luxurious and bespoken yarn and both have come together beautifully for me!
The first skein was mermaid colors, but the second was awash in sunny and earthy tones of pale yellow to rust. I dove into my stash basket and came up with three balls of mohair that I’ve been squirreling away since I first learned how to knit some two decade ago. A pale, buttery yellow color and super fuzzy (but thankfully not too itchy), I knew it was going to contrast great with the silk.
I love special yarns like this for small and simple jumbo needle projects that don’t require a lot of thought. It’s like doodling for me – I whip up a scarf in a meeting or while watching a tv show and get the twin bonuses of better focus and instant gratification of a new thing to gift or wear. Makes me feel so productive!
For this infinity scarf I cast on 10 stitches and knit in garter stitch on jumbo size 50 needles till I got the the end of the silk ribbon yarn. I twisted the scarf one twist before joining the short ends. I think that gives it a little more interesting shape when worn as a single wrap and it’s a little to short to double wrap.
My only issues with this project is that the mohair is shedding and the fact that So Cal has felt just like summer, all winter long. For the shedding I got a tip to wash the project in a vinegar solution. I’m going to try it and will let you know if it works. For the heatwave here I have no solution!
Hopefully I will have somewhere to wear this new item in the course of my travels.
