Thank you Pretend City Museum for hosting Momfluential at your event. All opinions are my own.
On Saturday June 7th Pretend City hosted their 5th annual “Good To Go From head To Toe” event for families to receive free health screenings. Over 1400 participants arrived to this exciting free event. It was a one stop shop that gave our families the opportunity to receive valuable health education, nutrition education, and have their young children assessed. The event was fun filled with live music, creative interactive activities, and a free pass into the Pretend City Museum!
As a mother of four I have learned that each child develops at their own unique pace. I understand the uncertainty and concerns that arise when we compare our children to others who perhaps have met milestones more rapidly than ours. But when should a parent be concerned about their child’s progress?
Most children do not receive developmental screenings at their well-child visits by their pediatricians. If developmental delays are identified early on, they can often be corrected and will lessen the impact on a child’s future education and learning. The museum’s goal was to let parents know that development can be tracked all year-around and can help children live healthy, happy lives. Developmental checkups are head-to-toe assessments that ensure a child’s growth and development is progressing on track.
Children were assessed for:
– speech and language
– fine and gross motor skills
Children received free oral exams to check hygiene and identify potential dental concerns.
Families met with nutrition counselors to discuss healthy eating habits and supplements. Nutrition is important and vital in the child’s well being and health.
Discovery Toys was an exhibitor at the event. These toys, books, CDs and games are recommended by childhood development and health care professionals to develop the fundamental building blocks necessary for creative thinking and learning success.
The Family Fun & Wellness Fair is a child development initiative was made possible by the Children and Families commission of Orange County, and other generous sponsors.
