Did you believe in Fairies when you were little? Fairy fever has swept over us in the USA. Tinker Bell, a long beloved supporting character in the Disney pantheon is enjoying her time in the spotlight. The third Tinker Bell movie in the series is Tinker Bell and The Great Fairy Rescue. It’s a film full of sweetness, friendship, wish fulfillment and fairy houses! Check the video above for a great sneak peek at what I am talking about.
Fairy Houses are enjoying a bit of a renaissance as well. It makes sense. A fairy’s got to have a place to live! I’ve been making Fairy Houses since I was a little girl, playing in my yard. I spent long afternoons daydreaming, leafing through my dog eared fairy books and collecting found objects, dollhouse miniatures, leaves, twigs and flowers to make a suitable abode for any wayward fairies in need of lodging.
So when I went to see a sneak peek of the upcoming Tinker Bell Great Fairy Rescue film I think I was most delighted to see the attention to detail that was paid in the depiction of the fairy house created by x for Tinker Bell. It transported me back to my own childhood. When I had the thrilling chance to meet the designer who created that house (yes, he created the house in REAL LIFE prior to animation) and see some of the working prototypes, my hands started to get itchy. I started to sketch and to put together a list of materials. If I was a little girl watching that film in a theater I would probably be turning my popcorn box into a fairy house before I’d even buckled in for the ride home.
I love love love that fairy houses and fairy house crafting are going mainstream in such a big way. But I know not everyone is as crafty as myself or as talented as the clever designers behind this film. So I’ve made a cheat sheet for you moms out there that want to share the experience of fairy house crafting with your kids, without pulling out all your hair. Below you will find a cheat sheet that includes my sketches, and a materials list. Follow the directions and you will make a fairy house very much like the one in the movie. Wow, I am so pleased to find this posting. Thank you so much. My daughter decided she wants to be Lizzy from the movie since her name is Elizabeth and she wants to carry the fairy house with a Tinkerbell in it as her costume. I recently lost my job and was looking for a cheap costume so this works out great. I did a simple google search and your posting was on the first page. I can’t wait to make this with her.
