Capturing travel memories is a subject I am passionate about. Thank goodness I have had tools like the Samsung S9 and 360 Camera from Verizon Wireless at my disposal this summer.
Thanks to Verizon for lending me a phone & camera to test out during my summer travels. All opinions are my own
There are so many places that I have been to in the past few years which are hard to explain, and envision. The scale is massive. I want to remember how it feels to be there, and the perspective I had. But it’s impossible to capture that with a normal camera.
This is when I am so grateful to whip out the Samsung Galaxy S9 and Samsung Gear 360 camera from Verizon Wireless.
The S9 has a spectacular camera – you could leave the DSLR at home if you wanted. But it becomes a real powerhouse when you pair it with Samsung’s 360 camera. Suddenly, not only do you have the option to shoot and edit 360 photos and video on the fly, you can also live stream in 360, and bring your audience in.
This is such an incredible way to share your travels, allowing people to look around and focus on the details that interest them. Put on a pair of goggles while viewing 360 video and you really feel immersed. I love to put the goggles on and “go back” to the places I have traveled.
We already own a pair of Oculus goggles. These make reliving the experiences we’ve recorded even more awesome!
The 360 camera also gives me greater creative freedom to create unusual photos that tell the story of the destination. For example, I love the way the giant diggers we encountered at a working Czech Coal mine, dwarf us here.
Having a 360 camera opens up so many more ways to be creative with your storytelling.
While touring churches and cathedrals in Europe this summer, I was grateful to be able to capture the scale, and get the whole picture, using the Samsung S9 and the 360 Camera.
Sometimes the results were downright creepy. It’s hard to imaging the scale of the “decoration” at Kutna Hora’s Bone Church. The 360 photos I took certainly do a good a job of conveying the scene! This church is famous for being decorated with the remains of over 40,000 people.
There are bone chandeliers and bone coats of arms. The 360 cam helped me capture this in a way that a regular camera could not have achieved.
Likewise, the 360 cam did a superior job of capturing the wide-horizoned view of the city of Litomerice, viewed from the windows of the City Hall tower. The superwide angle made all the difference when shooting vistas all across Europe.
And taking photos of local delicacies while on a food tour in Ostrava, was a pleasure with the Galaxy S9
It’s repetitive for me to sing the praises of the Samsung Galaxy S9 but I cannot seem to help myself. These phones keep getting better with each iteration and I am pretty sure at some point they are just going to fold my laundry and cook my dinner for me. The optics on this one are just dreamy and reliable – just what you need when you are traveling and have so many unpredictable photo ops.
Particularly for filming and shooting in low light situations, the S9 has been my go to camera all summer long.
Verizon does a great job of offering the best and latest tech to their customers, making staying in touch at home and on the road a pleasure!
