Last week we hit the red carpet for “The Beguiled” movie premiere in Los Angeles, California. This seductive new film is stirring up a buzz in Hollywood. Both celebs and filmmakers showed up to find out why.
If you crave edge of your seat, thrilling films like we do, then you will enjoy this film!
Thank you Focus Features for inviting us to The Beguiled Movie Premiere. All opinions are my own.
Sofia Coppola, acclaimed writer/director has created a seductive thriller starring Colin Farrell, Nicole Kidman, Kirsten Dunst, and Elle Fanning. Coppola brilliantly recreated the 1971 film. Her new adaptation is provocative, twisted, and unsettling.
“The Beguiled” is an atmospheric thriller. This gripping story unfolds during the Civil War, at a Southern girls’ boarding school. Its sheltered young women take in an injured enemy soldier. They provide refuge and tend to his wounds and the house is taken over with sexual tension and dangerous rivalries, and taboos are broken in an unexpected turn of events.
Correspondent Clarissa Camacho spoke to producer Youree Henley on the red carpet.
Henley said, “It’s a really fun movie to watch especially with an audience. When people feel like they are given permission collectively to laugh, or sigh, or to feel that experience. It’s very quiet sometimes and then it gets very broad, in the best sense.”
This disturbing and beautiful film took us on an emotional ride, much like Henley described in our interview.
Miss Martha (Nicole Kidman), portrays a good Christian woman who reluctantly helps a wounded enemy soldier. She becomes enamored with the attractive soldier, and over time things heat up.
Kidman’s performance was exceptional. Her beauty and demeanor transforms as her attraction grows for McBurney.
Corporal McBurney (Colin Farrell), is charming and irresistible.
McBurney is held in the music room, but his presence stirs up chaos among the girls. He distracts them from their French classes, bible studies, and etiquette class. Farrell was perfect in his role as McBurney. He is rugged and captivating, much like Clint Eastwood is in the original film.
Kirsten Dunst looked radiant and stunning at the premiere.
Edwina (Kirsten Dunst) portrays a quiet composed teacher who also falls hard for the handsome Corporal. She is determined to be by his side at “all costs.”
Alicia (Elle Fanning) is a young wild seductress determined to get her man. This love triangle becomes competitive and complicated.
Clarissa asked, “What was it like to work with a primarily female cast?”
Fanning said, “It was really inspiring. It was like summer camp. We were all together. It definitely was not a serious set. We were giggling a lot.”
This is sixteen year old Emma Howard’s first feature film. She was cast as “Emily” in the new movie.
Marie (Addison Riecke) is sweet as pie, but don’t let these little ladies fool you. As the story unfolds, these girls reveal a dark vengeful side.
Chef Casey Thompson baked this incredible six pound pie for the premiere after party. There is a backstory to this dessert, but you must watch this film to find out what that story is!
“The Beguiled” hits theaters June 23rd.
