Cavalia Odysseo is coming to Orange County February 3, 2016 , under the White Big Top, at the junction of the I-405 & the SR-133 in Irvine
If you are a fan of breathtaking acrobatic feats, dramatic theatrical costumes and stagesets, and beautiful well trained horses, you won’t want to miss this. If you don’t have any
soul particular feelings for those three things, you are probably very boring, and therefore should go as an exercise in trying new things.
Odysseo is not just a show, it is a spectacle and a feat of movable construction that Orange County residents are privileged to have easy access to. I know I don’t want to miss seeing this record breaking show. Even the tent is remarkable! Every time we drive by the construction, it seems to have doubled in size. This is a great mystery to us, as we never see anyone actually working at the site. We’re convinced that the entire event is fueled by magic at this point, but according to the fascinating story I am sharing below, there are many workers working and over 100 semi trailer trucks bringing in the supplies.
“Standing 125-feet tall and covering a surface area of 58,397 square feet – the size of an NFL football field – Odysseo’s exceptional White Big Top is twice the size of the one that housed Cavalia. When Normand Latourelle envisioned this new and gigantic White Big Top, he wanted to break through the limitations of standard big top tents. The main challenge was to open up the performance area. Mr. Latourelle knew that such unprecedented flexibility would allow him to showcase more horses and acrobats to create mind-boggling scenes. This involved removing the supporting masts from the stage, a common staging issue in tent shows. The new, specially-designed big top, created in Europe, shifted the weight of the structure from masts to three arches above the tent.
In the coming weeks, a team of 80 experienced workers will be in charge of building the inside of the White Big Top and constructing the Odysseo village. Using unparalleled technical, visual, and sound infrastructure, the inside of the tent will include bleachers with 2,000 seats and a stage of 17,500 square feet — an area larger than the Honda Center ice rink in Anaheim — which will require 10,000 tons of stone, earth, and sand to create.
An underground drain system will also be built to release 40,000 gallons of recycled water onto the stage. During the breathtaking finale, a vertiginous virtual waterfall overhangs the resulting lake, in which horses, riders, and artists join to frolic, leaving behind them the traces of their splashes—and an astonished audience. The impressive stage enables large-scale, cutting-edge creative performances while offering a vast space of freedom where 65 horses and 48 artists can display their intimate collaboration. To wow audiences even more, an 8,103 square foot screen is built on stage on which images of the most beautiful landscapes around the world are projected throughout the show.
Odysseo’s White Big Top has several exceptional features, with one that stands out in particular: a technical grid that can support 80 tons of equipment for the stage needs of the show, including the majestic life-size merry-go-round. This technical grid and the technology used for the realization of the show are worthy of the largest permanent installations in Las Vegas, New York, or London.
In total, one hundred and ten semi-trailer trucks will be required to transport the world’s largest touring production to Irvine, where the two and four-legged stars will soon perform this epic equestrian and acrobatic adventure that marries the equestrian arts, stage performance, and high-tech theatrical effects at never-before-seen levels.
Known as the world’s largest touring production, Odysseo marries the equestrian arts, stage arts and high-tech theatrical effects at never-before-seen levels. This larger-than-life show sends hearts racing, but it is also a feast for the eyes that succeeds in delivering the spectacular with soul. Audiences of all ages are rediscovering with emotions the century-old relationship between human and horse. As friends, partners and inseparable performers on stage, 70 horses and 45 artists lead the spectator on a great journey in a world of dreams where, together, they discover some of the planet’s most unforgettable landscapes.
Beyond the impressive technical display and equestrian and acrobatic numbers that are unlike anything ever seen on stage, Odysseo is first and foremost a work that feeds the soul. The poetry flowing from this grand adventure shines a light on a more humane world where human and horse may live in harmony.”
