The Other Side of the Bed

Sometimes the stupidest thing can have a profound effect on your marriage

I’ve spent almost half my life sleeping with the same man. On the same side of the bed.

And for almost that entire time, I’ve endured the reputation of being an Ice Queen. A non spooner. Someone who needs her space.

When my husband wanted to spoon, I acquiesced. I laid on my left side until I couldn’t stand it anymore.   “Ok now, that’s enough…”  I’d say.

It wasn’t a rejection of him. It was my arm going numb paired with a deep  subconscious need to roll over to my RIGHT side so I could fall asleep already.

Last week we switched sides.

Duh.

Switching sides after twenty years together is no small thing. But you might want to try it. It might surprise you. You might find out things about yourself and your marriage that are absolutely myth busting.

So much for my Ice Queen reputation. Turns out, I am a spooner.

Wow…. I just might need to do this, too.

My husband and I switch off sides, but we have my youngest son in our bed, so we just try to find a space and crash. With that many people in the bed you have to be a spooner! LOL

My parents have been sleeping on the same sides of the bed for 40 years. I agree, it would be a huge deal with switch after that long.

So simple! Maybe we need to make the switch as well. Was it weird? I can’t imagine sleeping on the other side!

Alas, my husband still has an ice queen. We have switched a couple times. I spoon til I get drowsy then… get off me. LOL

    Twenty years! Wow.

This reminds me of how I got a new car without getting a new car. We just switched.

That is awesome and sounds so simple. However, my hubs only snores while laying on his left side. So if we were to switch, he’d snore in my face. No thanks.
p.s. I have bedroom envy. Your room is gorgeous!

We switched after about 5 years. That was 32 years ago. Seems to be working out.

Love it! I’m going to try this the moment things change.

We always sleep on the same side too. It is good to mix it up. :)

Funny… and a good idea. We sometimes switch sides if we are traveling. I’m glad mixing it up has led to more spooning. Spooning = more love.

First of all you hot hoochie mama, how do I pronounce your name. Is it Karen only in Gaelic? Or is it Chiron the centaur in the pedantically written Percius Jackson series (please tell me you didn’t write those?). How, how do I say it?
And I love that you made this minor adjustment and everything change. The tides moved, the laws were rewritten, the world was round.

Also, is that your bedroom? I really like those chairs. xo

Brace yourself for this. It’s “Sharon”. Not to be confused with “Keeran” which is the proper pronunciation of the Gaelic name. Mine is creative more than Gaelic. I do a lot of explaining.

Yes it is my room. The chairs are my fave part :-)

Love this! So simple and yet such a great way to switch things up… literally!

That’s funny. Sometimes I make my husband switch seats with me at the kitchen table just to shake things up. Seriously, I don’t want us to be a couple who sits in the same spot, eats the same breakfast, and has the same conversation for the rest of our lives. Good for you for switching sides.

: ) Ok…so first…I love the photo…it’s like out of a movie! Jason is soooo not a spooner and I totally would be…he can’t sleep unless he’s all snuggled up with his pillow…turned the other way…we have NEVER changed sides of the bed….and now I’m wondering if that might make a difference…: )
