I still remember shopping for shoes at Stride Rite as a child. I remember the way the shoe store smelled. I can still feel my toes wiggling on the cool metal Brannock device and hear my mom sighing about how much my foot had grown since the last visit. Oh the thrill of shiny new unscuffed shoes! The thrill was even greater when the shoes of choice were the ones I really wanted, in a fun color or style – not the sensible, practical, sturdy ones that parents inevitably push.
The other day we picked out some shoes for my two little boys at Stride Rite. It turned out the ones that they really wanted, that made their feet and their eyes light up, were also incredibly sensible, comfortable and practical. Lucky for them, lucky for me!
My boys were so happy that they wanted to go to sleep in their little nylon shoe trying on footie socks, if not in their new shoes. Something tells me they may still remember these cute sneakers when they are all grown up.
Disclosure: Stride Rite provided my family with some excellent summer shoes for review. We exchanged a couple of pairs and purchased these in addition because there is just something magical about choosing your own shoes when you are a little kid.
