Healthy Child Healthy World: I’m a Parent Ambassador

I’m so proud to announce that I am a Parent Ambassador for Healthy Child Healthy World! I’ve been a fan of this excellent organization for over three years, attending their events in LA, meeting their founders and spokespeople. Healthy Child, Healthy World has made such an impression on me and on my family. Possibly more than any other organization I’ve encountered since I began blogging.

What I love about the organization is that they make living greener, cleaner, healthier lives an attainable goal for everyone. Without guilt, fear mongering or judgment. They believe that every small step helps which is why they have prepared helpful user guides like their 5 Easy Steps.

Healthy Child Healthy World makes it even easier for you to embrace change when you host one of their parties. They will send samples of kid/earth friendly products for you and your friends to try out in the comfort of your own home, at a home party.

Some of the things we have done since I’ve become more familiar with the 5 Steps and this organization:

  • Reduce the amount of plastic “disposable” type toys in our home. I’m far more critical about what I buy
  • Switch to organic (Naturpedic) mattresses for my baby’s crib and my son’s bed
  • Switch to “zero waste” lunch boxes – everyone has reusable water bottles and containers
  • Switch to BPA free bottles and cups (Healthy Child Healthy World was my first exposure to the BPA controversy over 3 yrs ago)
  • Grow a home garden
  • Swap out toxic cleaning products for all natural, less harmful ones
  • Swap out synthetic bedding for natural fibers
  • Cloth diaper my last baby for the first 9 months of his life

While this list looks long, it’s been a gradual process, and not one that has put an enormous strain on us. I believe that we have all seen great benefits from the things we have changed. My son has fewer asthma attacks. Our home still smells good. We’re proud of our efforts. We’re also far from perfect. We still eat drive through food on occasion, I’m not cloth diapering my two yr old (though I hope for him to be out of diapers all together soon!). The point is that every small change we’ve been able to make a part  of  our daily routines, and that of our kid’s, makes a difference. Theirs is  a message and a mission I am proud to be a part of and help spread.

I’d like to make it clear that I am not being paid for this ambassadorship. I’ve spoken in the past on the subject of Brand Advocates, Ambassadors and Enthusiasts. I accepted this unpaid position because this is an organization I really believe in. I’m proud and honored to spread the word about them. There are so few organizations I would pile extra work on my plate for at this point, but Healthy Child, Healthy World is an exception. Because it is so excellent. These people are really making a difference, one small step at a time. I’m also blown away by the good company I am in as an Ambassador for Healthy Child Healthy World. What a great group!
