FairFund Gives You the Chance to be a Hero

I want to take a moment of your time. It’s for something really important. It’s for someone’s future. I’m co-hosting a fundraiser in Los Angeles this Thursday night, 4/15 and it’s to benefit a cause I really think you need to hear about.  If you are in LA, there are still a few tickets left and I hope you’ll consider joining me! And if you cannot attend, I hope you’ll take a moment to read more about why this organization matters to me and to the celebrities, entrepreneurs and olympians who are my very, very esteemed co hosts.

Before I was a “Mom Blogger”, and when I was just a new mom, I had the opportunity to spend two summers working with older orphans from Russia and Kazakhstan. The programs I worked with found homes for these hard-to-place and oft overlooked children. We hosted some of them in our own home for the summer. It was difficult work, heartbreaking at times. But it was some of the most important work that I’ve ever done. Those children, many of whom were victims of unthinkable abuse, touched my heart, reached in and grabbed my core. I could not rest until each and every one whom I’d met, had a home.

It really was a matter of life and death. At the time, the statistics for the children who were not placed in loving homes, were grim. More than half of the girls in the orphanages we were working with, were destined to enter the sex trade upon dismissal from the orphanage system. The abuse, drugs & alcohol associated with this pretty much ensured them an early death. Many were fated to die within one year of leaving the orphanages.

The program that I worked for addressed the need for adoptive homes but not all the children who lived in those orphanages were adoptable. For them there was less hope, and a great need for intervention and education. There was a need for organizations like FairFund, who through job training, and rehabilitation programs, prevent abuse and rescue young victims from sex trafficking in countries around the world.

Why do I care so much? Why does this continue to pluck my heart strings so? One of those girls could have been my oldest daughter, who spent her early days in such a place.

Why should you care? Sex Trafficking is not just a problem that occurs overseas. Sex Trafficking happens here in the US as well. And not just in bad neighborhoods. It’s shocking. Organizations like Fairfund make a difference here and abroad. They save lives. You can help them.

It’s surprisingly inexpensive to save a life. A thousand dollars pays for the rehabilitation of one girl. Your contribution to Fairfund makes a difference. Even if you contribute one dollar. Tell a friend to match it and soon a girl somewhere, here or there, a girl like your daughter or mine, will have her future back.
