Blast off With Kidscraft Playhouses

This year for Spring Break we’re getting away. But only in our imagination. We’re staying home for the holiday which means we’ll have to get creative. This is a whole lot easier with a space shuttle to decorate.

You know how fun a cardboard box is? Multiply that with Kidscraft’s clever, creative pre-fab playhouses. These sturdy structures ship flat and assemble in about 20 minutes or less. Once assembled they can be painted or colored on and are sturdy enough to take a bit of a beating. We painted ours outside but I should mention we are storing indoors as I would not want it to get wet. Fortunately it weighs less than my 5 yo so it’s pretty easy to move around, even fully assembled.

I love the idea of having one of these playhouses around to decorate for a special party or other occasion. When the holiday is over the playhouse can stick around but you’re not tied to it forever. When you’re done, you simply recycle it.

It’s 6:30 am as I am typing this review and my 2 year old son is saying “That’s a COOL rocket ship!” in the next room. In fact he is singing it. I think this qualifies it as a hit.

Now it’s your turn to BLAST off! Leave a comment below telling me your favorite imaginary destination for Spring Break this year and you will be entered to win your own recyclable cottage or shuttle playhouse kit from Kidcraft. One winner will be chosen at random and announced on Saturday 4/10/10

UPDATE: Congrats to Rachel, commenter #17 chosen by Random.Org. She’s won a getaway, if only to her own back yard! She can pretend she is in a cabin in the redwoods though. Check out Rachel’s blog: Hi Happy Panda – it’s delicious!

I’d like to visit a place where more, if not all, parents could spend some actual time with their kids. A place where the work to home ratio was minimized, commutes were teensified, and getting supper, bathtime, potty time, bill paying, homework, and all that other nonsense out of the way took seconds, instead of hours.

Preferably, in this land, Televisions would not work, and they certainly would not be tunable to the news or the sugar commercial networks. Bleah!

    Sunsets would be slower,
    winds would blow softer,
    nights would be less darker,
and the ice cream truck would always keep an eye out for latecomers. Boo boos would heal faster, the pool would stay warm longer, and dogs would wag often, bark seldom.

I can’t find this place, rocket navigation or not, but I can catch glimpses of it. The beach, the breeze, sandwiches and caprisun, the feel of sun-soaked skin and new freckles both loathed and loved… I’d be an idiot to say the sand wasn’t quickly running out through my fingers, all the more reason to dig my toes in for the remaining time.

My spring break getaway would be anywhere I wouldn’t have to hear phones ringing or people talking on their phones in public. Preferably to a national park!

I would love to take my kids to someplace warm and with a beach. We could spend all day playing in the sand and waves.

Somewhere that isn’t windy. We are so sick of our 25+ mph winds! It would be so nice to play outside without sand getting blown in your mouth.

My imaginary spring break destination: Somewhere scenic with a lot of mountain bike trails. A fire pit at night to roast marshmallows, a forest to explore and no telephone, tv or internet access.

The rocket ship is fab. Someone gifted us a similar cardboard playhouse and it created hours and hours of fun & creative play

I’d like to be at your house – where all the fun always is! LOL

As for imaginary, a trip to a tropical beach, where the kids can dig in the sand and swim to their hearts’ content…

Hmmmm…I think my imaginary spring break destination would be skiing in Colorado. Of course my imaginary nanny would be coming along to help with the 3 kids so that Mommy gets a vacation too.

I love Geoff’s comment. He gave it so much thought. That place sounds like a dream.

I imagine myself lounging next to a large, private lake that is surrounded by mountains. Nothing and noone is there except my sweetie and me and our cozy little cabin.

Since we’re talking imaginary here. Our vacation would exist in a place where we’re not plagued with dirty diapers or runny noses. A quiet land where there are no toys for your to trip over and stub your toes. A serene vista where the wind doesn’t smell like chicken nuggets and mac and cheese. A refreshing area to dip your toes in the water and not be attacked by bath toys that screech and whistle. Oh, this imaginary place of mine would be sunny and hot and the best place on earth…. Ahhhhh. :)

That looks great. My son would have such a fun time playing with that.

Love it!! I think this is fantastic. My kids would be busy for days, no, make that weeks!

Our imaginary destination would have to be Hawaii.

For me the perfect getaway would be not having to work and being able to spend more time with my children. I would love to take them to a fun place where we were all having a great time. Maybe next year right?

I would love to visit a place with: a beautiful sandy beach with tonnes of shells and beach treasures to discover; mountains and forests full of old trees, climbable trees, hidden streams and mossy waterfalls; long wide sunny trails to ride bikes on or walk. In this place there will be a cozy cabin with bunkbeds and a couch and a cabinet full of games and toys we’ve never seen before.
It will be a magical cabin surrounded by a forcefield that prevents the outside dirt from coming in. The meals will cook themselves and will be healthy yet delightfully tasty and impressive so that the children eat it all without complaining.
The beds will have magical mattresses that give everyone a full night’s sleep, unintrrupted.

The rain will be warm, the sun will be shining, the wind will be gentle, the waves will be loud but not too large.

I would love to visit anyplace with warm sand and big waves. We miss it!

Honestly, I haven’t been anywhere for Spring Break ever. I’ve been dying to go someplace tropical. Still haven’t been on our honeymoon because I keep getting pregnant. So sad! I would love to go to Turks and Caicos, but I’ll settle for Hawaii at this point!

  • http://www.hihappypanda.blogspot.com rachel

A cabin in the redwoods. Nature walks every morning, storytelling every evening.

  • http://www.moneywisemoms.com Gina

We’ve been playing “Beach” in the living room, with a big picnic blanket, swimsuits on, and buckets and shovels. It’s too far to drive, so we’re making do :)

I would like to be on a beach w/ no one but my family. And definitely NO computer! lol

  • http://www.aintyomamasblog.com Aimee @ Ain’t Yo Mama’s Blog

My favorite imaginary destination is the beach of Fethiye, Turkey. I was lucky enough to go there (before child) and I often drift back there in my mind when I need a mental vacation. No TV, no phones, no outside forces distracting me…just a perfect and calm place that nourishes your entire being.

  • http://nugglemamashandful.blogspot.com Julia

My favorite imaginary place for spring break. Hmm a place where kids pick up without being told. DH’s give foot massages daily and the drinks arrive before you want them. Ahhh my little slice of heaven. Laundry that does itself would have to be included in that.

  • http://www.blossombabyplanning.com Jennifer

Somewhere we can do lots and lots of stuff outside, but where there are no biting bugs and sunburn doesn’t exist! There is no humidity, and the weather is picture perfect every day! I think the cottage would fit in just perfectly there! My twins would love it.

  • http://thebigbluemomma.blogspot.com Andrea at The Big Blue Momma

I would go someplace warm, like the beach. Nothing to do everyday but play with my kids. No cell phone service and the closest working phone would be a long bike ride away. The house we stay in would come with a chef and a maid, so I don’t have to worry about leaving my kids to pick up toys or fix dinner.

Yup, if I could afford that, I would so be there.

  • http://twitter.com/semantic Jeff

I would go off to the mountains. Way out in the mountains. Away from it all. No internet, no TV, no cell phones – just time for me, my wife and my kids to all spend real time together. Talking, playing, cooking, hiking, etc – together… just the family.

  • Sarah N

My imaginary Spring break destination would be Kauai!! Being on a lush island with beautiful beaches would be heavenly!

  • Geneva

very cool playhouse! My kids would love this!

  • http://www.officiallymymother.tumblr.com Robin H

A quiet beach. Toes in the sand. Corona commercial like waves. A pina colada in one hand, a book in the other. The kids are safe and entertained nearby and I’m able to read for more than 10 minutes without being interrupted. Nice. :)

  • http://BeverlyHillsMom.com Alexandra

My dream Spring Break would be to spend everyday at the Peninsula Beverly Hills Spa, while the hubby takes the toddler to play in the snow at Mammoth. That may relax and inspire me to do a cool paint job on the rocket!

  • Emma

I’d like to take a railroad trip with the kids in the sleeping bunk, across the country. We can view the beautiful scenery and make stop-over.

  • sara

i would love to take my family to an all inclusive resort! Somewhere mom does not have to cook or clean, aaahhhhh!!!

  • debh

My favourite imaginary spring break destination would be anywhere that I could hear the ocean upon awakening in the morning. Just love the sound of the ocean!

  • Kristen McLane

My dtr actually pretends her bed is a rocketship. My imaginary vacation is to a luxery all-inclusive resort. No cooking, no dishes, no laundry…ahh :)

  • Jennie

I want one that turns into a beach cabana – and then a real sandy beach with crystal water and gentle waves appear:) My boys would totally go for the rocket ship, though.
